THE CANARY ISLANDS: FUERTEVENTURA
By Cams
To be honest, I didn’t know anything about Fuerteventura prior to booking this holiday. But after searching for ‘winter sun’ destinations, I realised it is one of the Canary Islands in Spain. The Canary Islands: Fuerteventura seemed like the ideal choice- inexpensive, warm weather and beautiful beaches. It certainly didn’t disappoint!

Arrival
We landed in Fuerteventura around 11.15 am. Miles of spotless white sand and crystal clear blue seas lined the coast as we travelled to our hotel from the airport. The views were stunning! As we travelled through Corralejo, I could see our hotel ahead of us- a massive building in the centre of Grandes Playas sand dune beach.
First impressions of The Canary Islands: Fuerteventura
The first thing that I noticed about Fuerteventura was its natural, raw beauty. As you travel through the island, one minute you’re seeing volcano landscapes, the next minute you’re seeing stunning sand dunes and pure white sand and blue seas.
Fuerteventura’s settings make for the ideal beach holiday. It has over 150km of beaches, and due to it being near the coast of Morocco, it has all-year-round sunshine. Yet, over the week that I spent there, I learned that it had a lot more to offer than just sunshine and beaches.
The Hotel
Before you even step foot into the hotel, it’s main attraction is obvious- it is pretty much located on a huge beach! Being the massive beach lover that I am, it doesn’t get much better than that really.
Our room for the week was a spacious two-floor, Annexe with a terrace, located just opposite the hotel’s main building. The annexes had their own facilities (pool, dining area etc), but we also had access to the main building’s facilities as well.
The staff were very accommodating and friendly. The food was varied and there was something for everyone. However, it would be fair to say that it isn’t the most luxurious of hotels, as the furnishings and overall look of the hotel is slightly dated. Nonetheless, it is very clean and comfortable. I’ve since heard that the hotel will be undergoing much-welcomed refurbishments soon.
At the time of staying at this hotel, guests had to pay for the wifi. Not only that but the wifi only worked in the main hotel lobby. I’ve stayed in a few RIU’s before and the wifi has always been free, so I was quite surprised. Anyway, I ended up purchasing a weeks’ worth for 20 euros. Luckily since my stay, the hotel now offers the wifi free of charge.
