Coronavirus: Travel Restrictions To Some Of The World's Top Travel Destinations

The coronavirus has rapidly become a worldwide problem and it’s affected everyone in some way. It’s undoubtedly had a massive impact on the travel industry. Some of the drastic but very necessary steps some of the World’s top travel destinations have taken to slow the spread of covid-19 is by imposing travel restrictions or completely closing its borders. 

All information is accurate at the time of publishing. Updates will be added, so be sure to check back soon. 

Here is a list of some of these countries and the restrictions that have been imposed:

Algeria

All air and sea travel to and from Algeria has been suspended. All borders are completely closed.

Antigua and Barbuda

From 12th March, all non-nationals who have been to the following countries in the last 28 days are not permitted into the country: China, Italy, Iran, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, France and Germany.

Argentina

The country’s borders are closed to all but its citizens and residents, who are entering the country. No direct flights to the UK. 

Australia

On March 19th, it was announced that the country’s borders are only open to its citizens and permanent residents.

Belize

British and European nationals, and anyone who has travelled to these regions within the last 30 days, are not allowed entry.

The Philip Goldson International Airport and The Northern land border (Santa Elena Border) are closed. 

Another entry ports are closed – the Western, Southern and any other small border entry points. 

Belizean nationals, residents and diplomats can enter via the Northern border.

Brazil

 From 23rd March, for a period of at least 30 days, those from the following countries are not permitted entry: United Kingdom, EU, China, Japan, Australia, Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, Malaysia and South Korea.

On 19th March, Brazil closed its borders to these neighbouring countries for 15 days: South America (Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Guiana, French Guiana, Paraguay and Peru), except Uruguay.

Bulgaria

A national state of emergency has been declared until 13 April.

Entry to British nationals is forbidden.  Its border with Turkey is closed to passenger traffic.

Cambodia

17th March- Entrance is forbidden for foreign passengers from Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Iran and the US. 

22nd March- Restrictions on movement in Thailand. Medical evidence is needed from all passengers as proof they do not have corona virus. Plus medical insurance.

Canada

Canada has closed it borders to all but its citizens, permanent residents and US citizens.

Only essential traffic is permitted.

China

International flights to Beijing are being diverted to one of 12 specially designated airports.

At this airport passengers will be given health checks, which will determine if they can travel on to Beijing or not.

Colombia 

From 23 March, Airports are closed to international traffic.

Costa Rica

Costa Rica has closed all its borders to foreigners.

Croatia

Croatia has closed its border for a period of 30 days (announced on 19th March). Foreigners without a residence permit can not enter the country.

 

Cyprus

From 15th March, Cyprus closed its borders to foreigners. It is only open to its citizens, and those who work and live there.

Denmark

From 14 March, its border closed to foreign nationals. Travel is only permitted to foreigners with a ‘worthy purpose’.

Dominican Republic

All of Dominican Republic’s borders closed for 15 days from 19 March.

Egypt

Egypt have suspended international flights. 

Finland

Borders are due to be closed to foreigners from 19th March until 13th April.

British nationals, who are not residents of the country can enter under special circumstances. 

France

From 16th March, French borders closed.

Gambia

Travellers from the countries most affected by the corona virus, such as China, Italy and the UK, are subject to a 14 day isolation period on entry. 

The Senegal border is open only to retrieve essential supplies.

23rd March – airspace only open for medical cargo flights.

Germany 

Travellers will be refused entry unless they are residents to the country or have a vital reason to be there.

Ghana

From 17th March, travellers from any country with over 200 cases of coronavirus, will not be permitted entry into the country.

Greece

23rd March –  Direct commercial flights are suspended between the UK and Greece, until 15th April 2020.

However, travel between the two countries can be completed by indirect routes.

Visitors need to self isolate for 14 days on arrival. 

Grenada

19th March – Non- nationals and non-residents who have been to the UK and EU within the last 2 weeks, are banned from entering the country. 

22nd March – The same restrictions apply for those who have been to China, France, Germany, the US, Italy, Iran, South Korea and Spain within the last 14 days. 

India

International commercial flights are prohibited from landing in India for a week, from 22 March 2020. No domestic flights.

Jamaica

Entry into the country is only permitted for its citizens, their spouses and their children, as well as its permanent residents.

Japan

UK travellers and foreigners from 30 other countries can travel to Japan but need to self isolate on arrival, for 14 days. 

Kenya 

All international flights to and from Kenya are suspended, from 25th March.

Malaysia

Foreign nationals are prohibited from entering the country until 14th April 2020.

Maldives

Maldives has banned entry to anyone who has been in the following countries within the last 2 weeks: Bangladesh, China, France, Germany, Italy, Iran, Malaysia, South Korea, Spain a and Sri Lanka.

All other passengers are required to self isolate for 14 days.

Mexico

From 21st March, the border between the US and Mexico closed. The closure is due to last for at least 30 days.

Morocco

Flights to and from the country have been suspended. 

Ferry links are suspended between Morocco and Spain and Gibralta.

The Netherlands

19th March – Travel restrictions have been applied to non- EU citizens. Non- EU and UK citizens are not permitted entry.

Nigeria

All international flights are banned from flying to Abuja and Lagos airports until 23 April.

Entry into Nigeria is restricted for foreigners from Austria, China, Italy, Spain, the UK, Iran, South Korea, Japan, France, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands,, Switzerland and the USA. 

Philippine 

Until 14th April, all domestic and international flights have been suspended.

Saudi Arabia

Intentional flights were suspended for 14 days on March 15.

Singapore

From 23rd March, Singapore has restricted all travel from short term visitors, until further notice.

South Africa

From 26th March, South Africa’s airspace is closed to commercial flights. At present, this will last until 16 April 2020.

No domestic flights until further notice. 

Spain 

For at least 30 days, from the 23rd March, only residents of Spain and its citizens can enter the country.

Sri Lanka

From 22nd March, passenger flights and ships have been banned until further notice. 

Sweden

The Danish Government closed its borders on 14th March for a month.  

Trinidad and Tobago

Its borders are closed to all international flights. This come into effective on 22nd March.

Tunisia

All commercial flights to and from Tunisia were suspended at from 17th March.

Turkey

No entry to passengers who have been in any of the below countries, in the last 14 days: 

Angola, Austria, Azerbaijan, Algeria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Cameroon, Canada, Chad, Czechia, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Djibouti, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Georgia, Hungary, India, Italy, Iraq, Iran, Ireland, Ivory Coast, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Kuwait, Latvia, Lebanon, Montenegro, Mongolia, Morocco, Moldova, Mauritania, Nepal, Niger, Norway, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Oman, the Philippines, Panama, Peru, Poland, Portugal, South Korea, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Tunisia, Uzbekistan, United Arab Emirates, the U.K, Ukraine. 

United Arab Emirates

From 19th March, All flights are suspended to foreigners, only UAE citizens can enter. UAE residents can enter after two weeks.

USA

Travel has mostly been restricted to US citizens. Individuals who have been to most affected countries will not gain entry.
